Zimbabwe Bus-Trailer Fatalities Rose to 17

The April 30, 2013 Toyota minibus accident on the Great North road in Chisamba where 16 died on the spot and four more were injured is under investigation. Fifteen of those first fatalities were identified by relatives. The Volvo truck #AAF 8926 trailer# 6767T is owned by SABOT Management LTD.

The accident occurred near Ibis Gardens. The minibus roof was ripped off when it rolled.

The deceased were first taken to Liteta Hospital Mortuary then to Kabwe hospital mortuary.

The cause of the crash may have been when the Toyota had a sudden flat. The bus driver lost control and rammed an oncoming truck. One witness said three minibuses were racing and the last on hit a truck and rolled several times. The sixteen capacity bus was carrying 20 people.

The four initial survivors were Oscar Mwale, Constantino Labulayi, Kasashi Chimbini, and an unnamed woman who is in critical condition in the hospital.
