Pipeline Company Didn’t Turn on Remote Sensors Before ND Gas Leak

montanapipelineAuthorities said the pipeline near Williston, North Dakota, that leaked and spilled around nearly 3 million gallons of saltwater, could have been remotely monitored if the system was turned on.

According to the director of the Department of Mineral Resources, Lynn Helms, instead of relying on the advanced remote monitoring system, Meadowlark Midstream workers used to check the meters manually.

Helms also said that the pipeline was leaking for atleast 12 days before the leak was detected on January 6.
